Overview of PAC – DA 31%
PAC - DA 31% is a water treatment chemical widely used as a superior alternative to aluminum sulfate. It is produced and supplied in large quantities by Dong A Chemical Joint Stock Company at competitive prices.
Physical properties
PAC 31% exists as a fine yellow powder with strong hygroscopic properties. When in powder form, it has a longer shelf life under normal storage conditions. The chemical dissolves well in water to form a clear solution.

Chemical properties
When PAC hydrolyzes in water, it produces Al3+, Al(OH), solid Al(OH)3, Al(OH)2+, Al2(OH)24+, Al3(OH)45+, Al(OH)4-, and Al13O4(OH)247+ particles. Among these, the Al13 polymer plays a crucial role in the coagulation process. When dissolved in water, PAC forms Al13 particles with a charge of 7+, which neutralize the charge of suspended particles and induce coagulation.
The slow hydrolysis of Al13 results in a longer-lasting effect compared to Al3+. Furthermore, the polymer particles in PAC are significantly larger than the Al3+ particles, leading to larger floc sizes, improving the sedimentation process.
PAC also has a wider effective pH range (twice as wide) compared to aluminum sulfate, resulting in superior coagulation efficiency and better water treatment performance.

Applications of PAC - DA 31%
PAC is widely used in water treatment, particularly for potable water. The coagulation of hydroxide flocs helps reduce water pH and precipitate suspended solids, making the water clearer and cleaner.
In industries such as paper production, textile dyeing, and food processing, PAC removes impurities, absorbs color, and removes organic substances from wastewater, minimizing pollution before discharge.
PAC is also used in swimming pool treatment, aquaculture water treatment (shrimp, fish, etc.), and surface water treatment for domestic and industrial water supplies.
Notes on using PAC - DA 31%
PAC is highly effective even in small doses. Overuse can cause the flocs to disintegrate.
Recommended dosage for treating 1 m³ of river or lake water:
-
Water with turbidity under 90 NTU: 6 – 10 g of PAC
-
Water with turbidity over 90 NTU: 10 – 30 g of PAC (adjusted according to turbidity, organic content, and pH)
-
For industrial wastewater (paper mills, textile dyeing, meat processing, etc.): 20 – 200 g/m³ depending on suspended solids content and water quality.
To determine the exact PAC dosage, it is advisable to conduct a jar test.
Storage and handling instructions for PAC - DA 31%
PAC is highly hygroscopic, so it must be stored in a dry place away from flammable materials, alkaline substances, food, and beverages. The recommended storage temperature is between 5°C and 35°C.
In case of exposure or spillage:
-
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and wash the affected area with water for 15-20 minutes.
-
Eye contact: Immediately rinse eyes thoroughly with clean water for 20 minutes and seek medical attention.
-
Inhalation of PAC dust: Move the victim to fresh air and perform artificial respiration if necessary.
-
Ingestion: Give the victim plenty of water. Do not administer anything if the person is unconscious. Seek immediate medical attention.
