What are some uses for chlorine?

To ensure the protection of human life, chlorine is crucial. The earth's crust contains 0.013% of the element chlorine, which is extremely prevalent there.

Chlorine and its derivatives are widely used for bleaching in the paper and textile industries, for municipal water system disinfection, for making home bleach and biocides, and for the synthesis of several organic chemicals. Metals including copper, lead, zinc, nickel, and gold are extracted from their ores using both organic and inorganic methods.

Chlorine solvents are employed as extraction medium in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, printing, mining, and plastics, as well as in the production of adhesives, paints, and detergents.

Chlorine compounds have been used in pharmaceutical formulations  for many years and play a role in eliminating infection and disease. It is used not only in disinfectants, but also in drugs such as chloramphenicol.

According to statistics of the European Association of Chlorine - Sodium Producers Association Euro Chlorine:

- About 2 million jobs in Europe are chlorine-related.

- 85% of drugs are made using chemical chlorine.

- 96% of the crop protection used by farmers is based on chlorine chemistry.

- 55% of European chemical production depends on Chlor-alakali products.

- 98% of Western Europe's drinking water is made safe with the help of Chlorine.

How is liquid chlorine produced?

Most chlorine is produced industrially by the electrolysis of brine. Chlorine is also obtained as a by-product in the production of sodium metal by electrolysis of molten sodium chloride.

One of the laboratory methods for preparing chlorine is the reaction between sulfuric acid and sodium hypochlorite (Javen) or hydrochloric acid (HCL acid) with sodium hypochlorite. Sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium hypochlorite solution to release chlorine gas but reacts with sodium chlorate to produce chlorine gas.

Industrial production of chlorine is developed from the electrolysis of sodium chloride (NaCl) salt by the process:

Mercury cell electrolysis

Membrane cell electrolysis

Ion exchange membrane electrolysis

The producing unit delivers large quantities of liquid chlorine.

One of the businesses in Northern Vietnam that manufactures and distributes liquid caustic soda and liquid chlorine to the whole market is Dong A Company.

From 2003 to the present, 20 years of expertise producing chemicals. A contemporary electrolysis plant line with the most cutting-edge technology is what Dong A Company has now after continually expanding from a Javen manufacturing facility.

The company's products directly and indirectly from ion exchange membrane electrolysis have quality and competitive price. Due to the high electrolytic efficiency, the closed production process allows after having caustic soda NaOH - Liquid Chlorine, it is possible to directly produce Javen (NaCLO) - Hydrochloric acid (HCL) - PAC water treatment chemicals.

In the industrial production of caustic soda - chlorine, the ratio of caustic soda - chlorine products obtained after electrolysis is 1 ton of caustic soda: 1.1 ton of chlorine. With the current factory production scale of 9,000 tons of caustic soda/year (concentration of 100% caustic soda) each year, Dong A company can sell nearly 10,000 tons of liquid chlorine to the market.

Dong A Joint Stock Company has specialized chemical transport vehicles, providing liquid chlorine to customers nationwide.
